You alternate the digits. So 1.23 + 4.56i maps to 14.2536.

I guess you multiply the signs, but that still leaves the problem that (A+Bi) and (-A-Bi) both map to the same value. I suppose that after you did the alternating digits, you could apply the exponential function, and then give that a sign. That would be enough.

Morgan, this is all cheap rookery! You CAN plot complex numbers on a real axis in the same sense than men CAN lactate.

You could just make the first two digits indicate the sign of the two numbers. 1 for positive, 0 for negative.

It's important to understand that a graph is just a human construct and there's no inherent mathematical nature to them beyond what you give them.
