You probably were a little more of a sinophile than I am (I love cHina but I'm not really in to things like Chinese entertainment, language, literture or even history as I am with some other cultures although history and philosophy are general interests of mine).

Well, learning a new language is all about motivation and passion for the language, NEITHER OF WHICH I HVAAVE!! There's not much you can help me with but I'd still appreciate some tips.

Although it is considered an outdated view to blame Catholocism for the fall of the Romans, religious despotism cannot be considered a good thing.

Prosecution of heresy, and even the informal religious differences between east and west were notable factors.

Catholicism caused the romans to break off from their pagan past; and what little pride and tradition and point there was left in being Roman, was broken.

Although Catholicism accelerted Roman decline on an objective level; this notion fails on a comparative level. The Byzantines did just fine under christianity (although perhaps not catholicism), and we cannot argue that the romans did not suffer from any religious despotism prior to then (take the Roman prosecution of Druids, Jews, Crhistians for example).

However; the absolute despotism formed by Constantine and Diocletian had use for Christianity as a tool to control the masses, and so Rome succumbed to this among other forms of despotism.

I thus cite Catholicism as a notable but overall minor factor in destroying the Romans.
