It was another case of me being so beyond the actual level of the conversation that nobody could even understand my basic premise, which got bent into "Chris doesn't understand basic probability." |

My problem with the coinflip thing is more ontological than mathematical, and that's what people weren't getting.
It was more a question of superposition/quantum mechanics.
Of course the PROBABILITY is always 50/50, but my point is, there is probably a way to inquire into the question more deeply and to come up with predictive methods that go beyond classical probability.
But nobody was ready to hear that! |

You don't know what a superposition is. You're just using that word because Hubris uses it often, and you mistakenly think that it should be part of your vocabulary. |

Hubris could beat theldorrin in a physical/intellectual challenge
I believe this is due to his scots-irish blood, and in not having inferior greek blood |

The King James Bible has all sorts of literary merits.
I was thinking earlier today how dopey it sounds to me when people say "I'm not religious but I'm very spiritual." I don't understand what people get out of that distinction.
Chris, various figures in the history of statistics have flipped a coin a trillion times and counted how many times it landed on each side. Why are you a faggot about everything |

I'm talking about trends and runs, and predicting flips based on UNCONVENTIONAL MEANS.
I was just SEIZED by the urge to type a sentence that was a hideous Big Fagot troll, and I know it would have worked (because boy, talk about an Achilles heel!), but anyway, yeah. |

Most people who say "I'm not religious, but I'm very spiritual" are women, but you also say it. |

I never, EVER said it in that way, and I never would, because people who identify themselves as "spiritual" are consistently horrible.
But then again, you just said "women" so you probably meant that post as a compliment!
Actually, this is kind of exactly what I'm talking about when I say that I can't talk about SUCH THINGS with anyone. You have "religious" people who believe exactly what they're told, "dead matter" people who just deny everything, and "spiritual" numbskulls who make up a bunch of shit that sounds good to them and are fantastically credulous.
I'm in the middle of the spectrum between invincible scientific super-skepticism and flaky feel-good horseshit.
It's very hard to find people like me.

"I'm not religious, but I'm very spiritual" is for people who have been taught that belief in God is a positive thing, but who are halfway (probably permanently) to realizing that that isn't true. |
