Yeah, I sometimes find myself having more difficulty with supposedly worse people. I think part of it may be that you're strong against them, Roy. |

That guy was really pissing me off, because after I made moves that got him in trouble he would leave the game for like 3 minutes and then come back, and after he returned he always seemed stronger. He claimed it was his connection, but I don't know if he was doing it to study the board without taking up time, or getting help or what. Especially at the end he seemed way stronger. But maybe he was just really good at endgame like you said. |

I am not really adept enough to tell if someone is good at yose, but it seemed like he had initiative a lot, and got more out of it. Maybe that was due to skill before that, or maybe he cheated somehow. |

Haha, I forgot all about how Tsubaki pulled that same stunt by leaving! I swear though he seemed like a totally different player after he came back.
The endgame is scary because you have to navigate all the ominous CORRIDORS without making a big fuckup. |

In Hikaru no Go, it seems like every good player has an eidetic memory. A guy will show up and say, "Hey, I just saw this amazing game! Here, I'll show it to you" then he'll grab a board and proceed to recreate the whole game from memory. And nobody thinks this is a big deal. Is that really normal? Is it standard for Go players to just memorize a whole 255 move game? |

I shudder to think how low I'd be if I had the unnatural disadvantage of not being able to memorize every move of every game I saw. |

I went back to the place where I grew up, Yahoo, to see what it was like. The first guy I played was a blue player rated 1293, and I came very close to beating him. That made me really proud of myself, since before I never could have imagined being competitive against a blue player, let alone one ranked 1293. Then I started a game against a green guy ranked in the 1000s. I looked at his profile and saw that he had a losing streak of 20 games, and since I almost beat the blue ranked player I thought I would crush this guy. The one who got crushed was me, then he resigned. There are a lot of good players on Yahoo that intentionally resign after they've won, so that they can keep their rating artificially low and rape unsuspecting green players for some reason.
Jesus christ. Meaningless ratings, non reviewable games, spambots despite impossible to decipher CAPTCHAs, people never starting games, roaming goons who prey on weak players ... Yahoo is a nightmare! |

Yahoo is go for white trash people. That's probably why Vinny refuses to play on KGS. |

Also, I don't understand the rationality in that guy's behaviour. It's like he's so fixated on winning that he keeps his rank low so that beginners won't be scared away, and then resigns! |

I don't know either, they just want to impress/scare people. They're probably alternate accounts. This isn't just one person either, since I remember people doing it before.
Every time I see a purple or orange ranked person create a game, I always join, sit down and tell him to hurry up and start the game. He either never starts it or he kicks me, then I slag him via whisper as to why he created the game in the Beginner's Lounge if I'm not good enough for him.
Another thing that makes Yahoo even more shitty (if that's even possible), it has hard time limits. Meaning, if your clock hits 0, you lose. It's not like KGS where you always have that 20 seconds per move after it runs out. Because of this, if a guy is winning at the end of a game but his time is almost gone, the other guy will play pointless moves just to extend the game and make his time run out.
it's just a really hostile environment, it's not like KGS where everybody is polite. |

Yahoo is insane and full of insane people.
The mentality of playing against beginners in order to prop yourself up is baffling. |

Is that what bullies are like? I always thought that a personal connection to the person was in some way relevant. |

Playing there was so irritating that it was why I quit playing Go for over a year.
You don't get that cool feeling of playing progressively stronger opponents like on KGS either, since there's no auto match. On Yahoo, you just play any random person that will actually start the fucking game, and it's always a complete mystery how strong any given person will be. |

I had a really bad game tonight.
The bad game was going very well until suddenly I realized that a large group of stones was dead, and neither I nor my opponent saw it coming. It was just like, bam, and I was like, "Holy shit, you're going to kill those." God, that's the worst feeling in the world.
I was playing really retarded. I still have a lot of anxiety about figuring out how to prioritize -- whether to stop a potential problem before it starts, or secure more territory in other areas, or make a proactive attack instead of feeling like I'm defending all the time. _________________

I was looking at some of my old games, and I made a bunch of mistakes where I didn't prioritize correctly.
Move 194. For some reason I solidified something probably unnecessarily, which let him invade in the center.

Another sad thing is that I think I could have taken those stones at the top right.
I don't think I would have won by fixing those two mistakes, but it certainly would have helped. Maybe closed the gap by 40 - 50 moku. _________________ @}-,-'- *~*~* Member of the FTU Elegant Tea Party Society *~*~* -'-,-{@ |
