MAFIA IV: The War of the Roses |
|
|
This is MAFIA.
It takes place in the town of Pizza Paradise in the year of 198X.
It is the story of two warring groups of players: Citizens and Others.
The two teams are out for one another's blood. Every Day, the group as a whole elect to kill one of their own in an attempt to reduce the number of Others. Every Night, the Others assemble in secret and pick off the Citizens, one at a time.
Citizens earn victory when all of the Others have been exterminated. Others earn victory when they are equal in number to the Citizens.
Days last for exactly forty-eight hours. As soon as a majority vote is reached in that time, the accused will be lynched immediately. If he is a Citizen, the Sun immediately sets and Night begins. If he is an Other, the Citizens can continue to confer for the remainder of the forty-eight hours, and potentially kill another with a majority vote. There is no limit to the amount of lynching the Citizens can do within the forty-eight hours, provided that they successfully lynch Others each time.
In the event of the time limit expiring while two players have equal votes against them, the largest number of votes becomes the winning number, so to speak, and the first player to have reached that number is who is killed.
Once Day is over, Night begins. At this point, Others are able to deliberate and tell me which one of the Citizens they want to kill. Night has a time limit of twelve hours. If the Others reach a unanimous decision in that time, the victim is killed and Day begins. If there is no unanimous decision, a victim with a majority vote will die. If there is no majority vote, no one will die.
Activity is required. The solid rule is that players must vote (even if it is to abstain) every Day, and anyone who misses two Days will be killed for inactivity. Others must also be active in their Night kills. Any Other who is absent two Nights will be killed for inactivity. Furthermore, however, I reserve the right to kill at my discretion if I feel that a player is intentionally remaining inactive, despite voting (often if he simply votes without giving reason). I will warn the player of his impending death and he will have one more Day to improve. If he fails to do so, however, he will be killed. Do not sign up if you do not want to play.
Once a player is dead, he is allowed one ghost post. Any other posts will be deleted immediately. However, the player may continue posting in the ghost thread. The player's role will be revealed upon death.
No form of game-related communication between non-Mafia players is allowed. If I get a whiff of it, the player who does so will be immediately killed and banned from the next game. The same penalty applies to the use of screencaps and video. This also applies to dead players - if they are caught communicating they will be banned from the next game. They may post in the ghost thread, and that is all. This game is made to be deliberated in conversation during the Day - keep it that way and it will be fun.
This game will be played under MafiaPURE rules. Therefore there are no special roles, only Citizens and Others, making it a pure game of wits.
To sign-up, post to indicate that you are playing. I may deny entrance to players who have a history of inactivity.

November, 1989.
The Pizza Wars are over. The three year conflict as the great empire of Pizza Pavilion and the resilient state of Pizza Palace fought to claim Pavilion's colony, Pizza Paradise, which itself only wanted to stand on its own. After years of warfare, destruction and death on all sides, Paradise got its wish, and Pavilion and Palace rescinded. Now, the world begins to rebuild itself.
Standing amidst the wreckage of Pizza Paradise are its denizens. This town has won its sovereignty, but at great cost. So many innocents are dead, and without the governing rule of Pizza Pavilion, there is no authority in the remaining community. There is only chaos, anarchy, and fear amongst the refugees.
Then, one day, in this city without schools, hospitals, even homes, two buildings emerge, practically overnight. One on the West End of town, overlooking Anchovy Lake; the other on the East End, nestled atop Calzone Way. They are gated, silent and solemn. No one knows where they have come from, nor who could be inside. But somehow, they must be related. For on the West House, prominently above its great door, is a pristine statue of a great rose, carved in stone. And the East House, a rose just as towering, made of diamond.
In the mornings, the East Rose's shadow stretches into town square. In the evenings, the West Rose's shadow does precisely the same. Like clockwork, then, none of the citizens of this broken town can forget these ominous landmarks.
And then one day, in the center of the square, where both shadows would overlap if they could, there are two bodies. One is that of Gabriella Pizzarino, the wife of Giorgio Pizzarino. The other, Maria Hall, wife of the Pizza War's greatest mind, Pizza Paradise's City Hall. Both women have roses stuck into their chests, piercing their hearts. One rose is stone. The other is diamond.
The townspeople gather round. Some weep. Some shut their eyes. Some even run away. But there are some who remain - some who refuse to blink, or turn. Some who stare at this horrific site, and know what must be done.
The war for Pizza Paradise is not over yet.
1. Magic Juan is... Jaque Perrier, thirty. A breadmaker who has come to this country with his wife, Evonne, and their two year old son, Stefan John Philip, from his native French Canada. He was looking for a better life for his family in the Pizza Delta, but was left aghast when he found that he had arrived in the brink of all-out warfare. Pizza Paradise, desperate for men, offered him and his family citizenship if he agreed to join their military. With seemingly no other option, and only barely speaking the language, his kissed his wife and son and handed them over to Paradise's makeshift safegrounds, having been promised they'd be cared for, and went off to war. To his own amazement, he survived, with only a stab wound in his leg and a permanent limp to show for it. He dreams now of owning his own bread shop, but he wonders how it could be done amidst this impoverished city-state. See: MAFIA I.
2. Vinny is... "Rogue" McMac, thirty-one. A Black Irish mountain of a man, he was a key figure in Pizza Paradise's achieving independence. Frequently referred to as a one man army, Rogue (whose first name remains a mystery to all) is most famous for killing all but two of Pizza Pavilion's elite Ricotta Infantry single-handedly, the surviving two men left alive at his will to go back and tell Pizza Pavilion's leaders what had happened. It was this battle, along with City Hall's great military strategic skills, that are credited for turning the tide of the war. While these days most people give Rogue the credit as a war hero that he deserves, he secretly worries what his place is now that Pizza Paradise no longer has need of a near-seven foot tall soldier such as himself. He even wonders if he should pack and leave in the night, not telling anyone. The only thing that keeps him tethered, though, is the orphaned child of his friends, the O'Neals. He has made it his new duty to look after their five year old son, Vinny. See: MAFIA I.
3. Seika is... Samuel Keith, twenty-six. Samuel had been a general for the poor Pizza Palace army, but abandoned them at their most desperate hour to seek amnesty in Pizza Paradise. Taking him on as a strategist, it was the catalyst that led to the collapse of Pizza Palace, which suffered destruction even greater than Paradise's. He is now the most hated man in Pizza Palace, with warrants out for his arrest and execution, and he desperately hides in the boundaries of Pizza Paradise. But yet he knows that he's really not wanted there, and seen as a turncoat, and he wonders how much longer he can really afford to stay.
4. Vito is... Papa Giorgio Pizzarino, forty. Well-known as the greatest pizza chef in all of the Pizza Delta, Giorgio had three children with his now deceased wife, Gabriella - Anthony (seventeen), Vicky (fifteen) and Vito (eleven). He is a big man, a large and commanding Italian frame, "Straight from the tip of the boot" he tells people. He is also quite charismatic and charming, and even deeper friends with City Hall after the war. With no money in his pocket, Giorgio's first goal once Pizza Pavilion announced its retreat, after ensuring his family's safety, was to set up a small brick oven in the center of town and use his contacts in Pizza Palace and the Pizza Pavilion pizza farms (forever neutral when it comes to a fellow pizza maker) to receive ingredients necessary to provide all of Paradise's survivors with as much free pizza as they need. His charity is a beacon for the town, and his delicious pizza is doing no small amount of good for their morale. See: MAFIA I.
5. Theldorrin is... Theodore Dellins, forty-eight. The man who virtually began the cause for Pizza Paradise's freedom eight years ago, and its first army captain, has come out of the war just as bad as anyone. The man who many foresaw as Paradise's first President was injured not one year into the conflict, shot in the spine and left immobile from the waist down. The bullet is still lodged in his vertebrae. Although he handed over the reigns of his small army to City Hall after his injury, he continued to have great interest and influence in Pizza Paradise's fight for independence, though that interest waned towards the end. And now, barely anyone sees this former paragon of heroism, as he seems to have completely isolated himself, a slave to his wheelchair and only desiring solitude.
6. Yogurtman is... Mason Lanners, nineteen. The older cousin to Brian and Hal Lanners (eleven and five, respectively), Mason is a young man who managed to keep his bright smile even after all this catastrophe. As both his and Brian and Hal's parents were all lost to the war, he takes care of them in his shelter, while at the same pursuing his goals of journalism. First, he insists on giving Pizza Paradise its own newspaper, then moving onto television broadcasting. Mason, formerly the editor in chief of his school paper (before the school itself was bombed into rubble), sees only a bright future for himself as a reporter, and is willing to be the man to give a voice to his sovereign town. See: MAFIA III.
7. ALDP is... City Hall, thirty-five. The man who won the war, they say. This most beloved citizen of Pizza Paradise was the first to take Theodore Dellins' ideals of independence and make them applicable to the common man. He is overseeing everything, currently. The building of shelters, ensuring that Giorgio Pizzarino always gets his supplies delivered, the daily talks in town square of what is to become the government of this town. Most of all, he realizes, he is now a single parent to his newborn child, Matthew, not even four months old. City Hall mourns his wife today, but he refuses to grieve. He knows that Pizza Paradise needs to him to be strong. And he needs them as well. See: MAFIA I.
8. Derek is... Michael Payne II, forty-one. One of the few sources of income for Pizza Paradise, he has not been conservative with donating his wealth to the rebuilding of the town (unlike the DeGaunt family, who are scarcely seen in the area at all). Too fat and unhealthy to have served in the army, he nevertheless financed them out of pocket and earned himself and his family (wife, Victoria, and two sons, Michael III, eight, and Derek, six) great respect. See: MAFIA II.
9. Servbot is... Quanis Servic, twenty-four. An arms specialist in the Pizza Paradise army, he was widely considered the best shot in the whole brigade, the only one to score a perfect five hundred points in the Shoot the Targets mini-game before the war. With little to do now that the fighting has ended, Servic is beginning to find wealth as an arms dealer, as every citizen feels unsafe and paranoid. City Hall and other respected members of the community are frowning on this activity, but none consider it worth taking action to stop him. Quanis estimates that by now every family in Pizza Paradise has one of his guns.
10. Clotho is... Clotto Baynard, thirty-seven. When he was shot and left brain-damaged towards the end of the war's first year, he became the only mentally retarded individual to serve in Pizza Paradise's military. Clotto's constant excitement and enthusiasm was something of an asset. Fending for himself, Clotto is now gathering all the simple folk and foreigners that he can in order to make something of a school for them. Gradually, more and more have joined his cause, and Clotto is quite glad to feel useful once again. He even secretly hopes that if he teaches enough people, maybe he himself could somehow recover full use of his thinky-brain, even though the doctor-men told him it was impossible.
11. Andre is... Tobey Robinson, forty-nine. Still old enough to remember when his family worked as a slave at the Pizza Farms (freed when he was thirteen), Tobey was the only man of his age still physically fit enough to serve in the army. Married with one child, Andre (four years old), he also has an illegitimate son he doesn't know of in Pizza Palace. Tobey escaped the war still healthy and today does much labor and work for the good of the town, almost like he did when he was a child. Only now, he does it for his family. He does it for freedom. See: MAFIA I.
12. MADali is... Aasif Sikh, twenty-eight. An oafish, fat Pakistani, he came to the Pizza Delta in the hopes of selling himself as a mercenary. As he was not the skilled, smooth Arab he billed himself to be, he was laughed out of the white Pizza Paradise for his skin, laughed out of Pizza Palace for his inflated price, and allowed to stay in Pizza Paradise so long as he didn't get in the way. He makes attempts to be helpful now, but mostly just eats more of Giorgio's pizza than anyone else.
13. Bounty is... Clay Weston, forty-six. A very remarkable soldier in the war, but mostly because his fiendish cocaine addiction allowed him to perform at unnatural levels. However, now that non-pizza trade embargoes are in place, his supply of cocaine from Pizza Pavilion has been cut off, and he is going through chaotic withdrawal. He has a secret stockpile of guns, no one knows where, and is threatening to use them more and more fiercely as each day goes by, as he begs and pleads with the men in charge to get him his drugs. Everyone acknowledges him as a ticking time bomb, and none hope to be in the vicinity when he goes off. See: MAFIA II.
14. Mike is... Victoria Payne, thirty-eight. The wife of Michael Payne II and mother of Michael III and Derek. She met Michael II when they were holidaying in Bermuda together, and being of the upper class herself, she knew of the Paynes and decided to do all she could to woo the youngest heir. However, to her surprise, she actually fell for him, and in a short number of years, they were wed. Michael II is not much of a loving man these days, but she understands his trials and always makes it clear that she is there for him, however he needs her. They have not made love in six years. See: MAFIA II.
15. Psaturn is... Brice Satters, twenty-two. A heavyset military psychic, he stood out at a young age in school as having finely tuned extra-sensory perception, so much so that one of Pizza Pavilion's early operations was an attempt to retrieve him from Pizza Paradise, but it failed, as he knew that they were coming. Brice was able to masterfully predict many of Pizza Palace's movements, as well, and some credit him to finally destroying their offense once and for all. Now, Brice simply offers his services to survivors as an odd form of therapy, helping them make peace with lost loved ones and giving them spiritual comfort.
16. Rice is... Zhou Shi-Shin, twenty-nine. A soldier of the war, he is lately deep in shell shock and post-traumatic stress disorder. Sadly, he relieves his deep psychological demons by beating his wife, pregnant with their first son, Win Chi. She obliges his wrath as a good wife should, but secretly she wishes that he would focus his energy back into something more positive, like war or Go, and leave her be, at least while she is with child. Shi-Shin, though, finds nothing exciting any longer, he feels only a gaping, empty hole inside of himself. See: MAFIA II.
