Hey THELDORRIN, what would you say is the BEST way of filtering serverlogs for human visitors?

The number of bots and spiders that visit my shit is unbelievable!

Am I right that bots/spiders don't GET images, so any IP that doesn't GET them is necessarily non-human, so that's a good shorthand method?

Are you looking at raw server logs? You don't have something installed that gives you nice graphs and such?

Why don't you use something like Google Analytics?

It's possible to browse with images turned off. I would if I were blind, for example.

Oh, of course I have a stat tool (Web Log Expert), but it's not like it automatically does that filtering for me, and I don't know what to filter for.

And honestly I kinda like looking at the raw logs.

I mean, I do a mixture of both.

What I don't like about WLE is that it doesn't show what happens, IP by IP, minute to minute, it separates/summarizes everything by categories.

So it's like "Visitors", "Pages," "Referrers," etc.

No, fucker, I don't want that! I want it broken down chronologically, by user, step by step! And the best way to do that seems to be to just look at the raw logs.

God fucking damn I can't believe I didn't do this when I had DBZ Uncensored. Not that I even had access (probably) to logfiles back then on shitty ass free hosts and whatnot, but I would give my nuts to look at my traffic in detail. Especially because it kind of gives me a hard-on to look at serverlogs. This shit is fun!

Back then though? I didn't know shit. My idea of analytics was looking at my shitty ass Microsoft LE hit counter!

SO, all I have to do is isolate a sitewide piece of JS and then track it.

I know this to be true because spambots have managed to parse Javascript to harvest munged email addresses.

Also, I think Google is able to sometimes read AJax-ified pages. Like when someone uses GWT.
