Oh yeah, the clown bed part was also traumatizing to LITTLE ROY, especially since I too had a clown in my room. Parents just don't understand!

The only cartoon I can think of where the characters age and doesn't involve a time skip is Hikaru no Go. It happens so gradually that you don't even notice it, until you watch the last episode and then compare it to the first episode and you're like, holy shit! Hikaru's a man now.
