The problem is Jon Stewart gets great interview oppurtunities and he pisses them away. How on Earth can he bitch about the democratic candidate failing to get any stances on issues across when he fucking had the guy on his show and he asked shit like "How are things?" If you're humor is going to be politically charged, and you're going to essentially make political commentary on every show then at least stick to your guns. At least Colbert doesn't drop the schtick during an interview to give someone a verbal blow job.
On the topic of shitty politicans giving them material. Actually from my perspective the majority of their humor comes from pulling quotes out of context produced by other news networks. I mean honestly anyone who watches The Daily Show gets it, Fox news is schlock. There are plenty of other things to make fun of, and I think the show is going to fail to capitalize on all of that as long as Stewart heads it up.
Peter, what does Bill Clinton have to do with anything? |

I'll concede that The Daily Show allows itself to be nothing more than the left wing O'Reilly Factor now, which is sad. But honestly, how can you expect a guy like Jon Stewart to ask politicians biting questions? He doesn't have a political science degree or anything. He's a comedian who makes a living making fun of people, and then kissing those same people's asses as soon as their face to face. That's what David Letterman, Conana Obrien, and Jay Leno do. Why should Jon Stewart be any different?
What's sad is that there's no legitimate left wing counterpart to the O'Reilly factor. The best they have is a comedian. It's fine for politicians to go on his show and get asked a bunch of fluff to appeal to a young demographic. But there should be some actual option for them to be on cable television and have pre-prepared seemingly tough questions whose responses were actually rehearsed like when Bush went on O'Reilly.
All that shit exists because the Bushes can fund it with their oil money. They can buy news shows to kiss their asses. No democrat has that, so comedians end up rooting on the underdog, and then conservative corporate media powerhouse calls THAT a liberal corporate media powerhouse, which is ridiculous. There are direct tie-ins to members of the Bush family and Fox news. There is an actual profitable source that they are obviously prostituting. There's nothing like that with liberals.
You're right about Jon Stewart not being as funny as Colbert and laughing at his own jokes too much, though. I thought he was in much bettet form on Crossfire than he ever is on his show.
"Why do you think John Kerry went on my show?"
"To appear hip."
"Wait, so he doesn't want votes? He's just having a mid-life crisis?" |

Why is the daily show left-wing?
I don't really watch anything more than clips, so I'm not aware of any political slant, except that against the ruling party. |

Your views of left and right are skewed because you live in Canada, a vile Communist entity that exists only by sucking on the teet of big mother America. |

You didn't really address my question.
What do they do that specifically puts them on one side or another? |

The Daily Show is awesome, and I hope everybody talking shit about it is just airing out their anal-ysis hardon.
The Daily Show is supposed to be funny, and it makes a lot of very funny jokes. The recent recurring joke where orchestras play "Sister Christian" (MOTORIN'! WHAT'S YOUR PRICE FOR FLIGHT?) at Bush's request is incredible, and they could probably make it in every episode without me getting tired of it. |

It makes fun of both sides. It made fun of the Democratic presidential debate and all the ridiculous stuff Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reed were doing with that bill Bush vetoed. |

That's the impression I get.
It seems a lot of stuff that is just designed to get ratings and entertainment is labelled as 'leftist'. |

Stewart isn't soft on his guests any more than his setting and media stature cause him to be. He's very famous, but that doesn't mean he's in a position to grill every influential guest. If he didn't keep things light enough, nobody influential would even book him.
He was very tough on John McCain in their last interview. |

I don't understand the whole "the media liberal bias" thing.
I mean, duh.
The media will either be conservatively or liberally biased based on what channel you're on, or newspaper you're reading.
It's almost like it's its own miniature world! |

The Daily Show could stand to dump about four of their correspondents.
Starting with the black guy and the brown guy. |

Yeah, the current batch is pretty weak.
I can't tell if Jason Jones is getting better or I'm just getting used to him. I think he must be getting better, because I still don't like Samantha Bee. |
