I wonder what sorts of 15th/16th-season equivalents of Frank Grimes there are but that nobody would be bold enough to reference now, since an agreement seems to have been made within the collective unconsciously circa 1997 that, moving forward, all Simpsons references that could be expected to be understood in mixed company would stop at right around that point in the series.

Walk into a room and yell "DENTAL PLAN!" and several people will think (if not say) "Lisa needs braces!", and they'll appreciate your moxie, but if you made some kind of reference to last year's Treehouse of Horror, they would feel that you were committing a faux pas, even if they had seen the same episode and recognized the reference.

If I say DENTAL PLAN in a room in Dubai, I doubt anyone would get it, and probably be a bit confused, because I dont think there is any company that actually gives dental plans.

At my old apartment, I rented a washer and dryer from a company called Azuma.

At the end of my lease, I scheduled for my equipment to get picked up. The problem was, Azuma said they weren't going to be able to pick them up until 2 days after I was supposed to be moved out. They knew about my situation, but they didn't try to schedule an emergency pickup or whatever.

I asked my leasing office about it, and let them know that they would need to let Azuma in to my old unit to retrieve the equipment, and they said it would be fine.

After I moved, I got a call from Azuma saying they couldn't pick it up when they said they could and needed to schedule it for later. I was just like, fuck them, I don't even live there anymore. They know that, the leasing office knows it, and if Azuma wants their equipment, they'll figure it out.

So I didn't hear from Azuma again. I got another bill, which I thought was the pickup fee. I checked my account online, and the equipment was no longer listed in my account summary, which - to me - indicated that it was taken care of and no longer under my responsibility.

That was the end of July/early August. I keep getting bills. Finally, around early October, I give Azuma a call.

They never got the equipment, it turns out. To make things even more awesome, apparently my old apartment had been rented out to new people, with my washer and dryer still in it. So now when Azuma tries to pick up the equipment, the people who live there now won't let them in. And why would they? They're getting a free fucking washer and dryer, on my dime!

Anyway, a lot of retarded back and forth shit has happened. Azuma blames me and the leasing office, the leasing office blames me and Azuma, and I don't even know what the fuck is wrong with the people who live in my old place. To make things better, the old leasing office is claiming that Azuma came to get the key to my old unit, picked up the equipment, and brought the key back. I asked if she was sure, and she said ABSOLUTELY the equipment is gone. Azuma, however, still insists that they do not have the equipment.
